Healthy Carolinians and the Orange County Health Department are partnering with Durham County Department of Public Health to bring you, A Path for Hope: Suicide Prevention & Awareness Walk on Thursday, September 29, 2022 from 6:30pm – 8:00pm. The event will be held at Leigh Farm Park, located at 370 Leigh Farm Rd. in Chapel Hill.
Suicide is a serious public health problem that can have long-lasting effects on individuals, families, and communities. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for youth in NC, ages 10 to 18, and the third leading cause of death for adults ages 19 to 34. Suicide deaths are only part of the problem. More people survive suicide attempts than those who die. Suicides are preventable, and 90% of people who attempt a suicide and survive do not go on to die by suicide. Suicides can be prevented by recognizing signs and symptoms, learning how to help, and taking steps to provide that help to people of all ages and abilities in need.
We invite you to join us on Thursday, September 29, 2022 from 6:30pm – 8:00pm. The event will be held at Leigh Farm Park, located at 370 Leigh Farm Rd. in Chapel Hill. During this event, we plan to share the campaign, hear from an experienced Mental Health expert who has personal experience with suicide and mental health, and end with a walk in remembrance of those we lost and celebrating those who survived.
